Parent's Charter

This charter has been developed to make you aware of the need to ensure your children are properly restrained in the car on every journey, as well as advise you how your behaviour in the car could actually influence how your children will behave and drive in the future.

Child and Parents with Parent's Charter

Please complete your name and sign the charter below.

Did you know that a child is 90% less likely to be killed in an accident, if they are properly restrained?

Did you know that pre-school children are far more likely to behave in an aggressive manner after watching an aggressive adult role model? They learn both specific types of aggression (for example road rage) and the general idea that acting aggressively is acceptable, from negative role models. (Bandura et al, 1963).*

I, agree to follow these simple rules when using my car, as it could save my child's life, and make him/her a safer and better driver in the future.
I promise never to put my child seat in a car with a frontal airbag - even if it is deactivated.
I promise to make sure my child's car seat is the correct one for the model and make of my car/s.
I promise to make sure my child's car seat is the correct one for the weight and height of my child.
I promise never to put my child seat in a car with a frontal airbag - even if it is deactivated.
I promise to check the seat for every trip to make sure that:

  • it is securely and correctly fitted in the car.
  • the adult belt is passed through all the correct guides.
  • the child's harness is adjusted to fit different clothing, and is tight,

I promise that, if I remove the child safety seat, I will make sure it is re-installed correctly.
I promise to make sure that the buckle doesn't rest against the seat frame as it could shatter under stress.
I promise to change my child's car seat after any impact or collision.
I promise not to behave badly when my child is in the car, as my bad behaviour will influence how she or he drives in the future.
I promise to make sure there are no loose objects in the car which could fly around and injure someone if I have to brake suddenly.
I promise to never put more than one person in a seatbelt or restraint.
I promise never to allow my child to sit with their feetup on the dash board, to prevent serious injury to their legs and feet in the event of an accident.
